The powder coating booth is used to finish metal with a high quality, powder coated finish. A powder coated finish is much more difficult to chip off than traditional paint, and cannot be removed with standard solvents. After it thoroughly covered with pigmented powder, your metal part is placed in a oven to bake the paint on. Once it’s baked on, powder coated finishes are excellent for outdoor furniture, bicycle frames, and hub caps, and more! Because it’s incredibly weather-resistant, this surface treatment is commonly used for outdoor applications on metal projects.
The setup at MADE includes a ventilated application booth, gun, wheeled rack for applying your powder, and an option between two sizes of ovens. Our large-format oven, pictured above, can fit larger items like bicycle frames or car hoods. Our smaller oven is used for more delicate work, like jewelry or forks (yes, we’ve powder coated forks in it!
Sign up for training in our powder coating bay to get started! Our training session will cover the how-to’s of cleaning your metal with TSP and in our sand blasting cabinet (otherwise known as a media blaster, or bead blaster), applying the powder and baking it on. Members are responsible for bringing in their own powder, which can come in a variety of colors, and textures based on your needs.
