Sandblasting uses compressed air to propel a stream of abrasive material against a surface under high pressure to smooth a rough surface, roughen a smooth surface, or remove surface contaminants. The effect is similar to using sandpaper, but provides a more even finish with no problems at corners or crannies. It is often used to remove a previous finish on an item, to remove rust, or to prepare a surface to receive a new finish.
